Choosing Your Dentures

Both traditional and implant-supported dentures are available as a full or partial restoration. A full denture will replace an entire arch of teeth, while a partial will only replace some of your teeth. Our team can explain all your options and the benefits of each to help you decide which is appropriate for your needs.

Traditional Options

Because traditional dentures do not require surgery, they are usually the more affordable restorative alternative for a wider range of patients. While these prosthetics are less stable, they are often a suitable alternative for those who lack sufficient bone tissue to support implants.

Receiving traditional dentures usually takes only two appointments. During your initial consultation, one of our dentists will review your medical history and examine your smile. If you are in good health, he will then ask about your aesthetic goals, listen closely to your concerns, and take into account your lifestyle and budget before creating a customized treatment plan. In order to create dentures that fit comfortably and securely, we take precise photographs, digital x-rays, and impressions. This precision allows you to enjoy eating or talking without worrying about unexpected slippage.

After your first visit, we will send the impressions to our trusted off-site lab, where a skilled technician can create your dentures from lifelike materials. Once your restorations are completed, you can come into the office for your second appointment. Your dentist will check how the dentures fit and ensure that the bite is comfortable.

Your teeth are an integral part of your daily life. Both traditional and implant-supported dentures can help restore lost functionality and confidence.

Implant-Supported Options

While implant-supported dentures do cost more than traditional options, many patients find that the security and improved oral health they offer is worth the additional expense. Because the implants act as artificial tooth roots, the restorations are secure and stable. The implants also stimulate the gums and surrounding tissue, which helps not only to prevent jawbone atrophy, but also to encourage new growth.

The timeline for implant-supported restorations is much longer that traditional solutions. In addition to the normal examination, your dentist will also need to evaluate your jawbone to ensure that there is enough tissue to support the implant posts. The treatment  will require placing the implants in the jaw before restoring them with the prosthetic. In order to ensure a full recovery, these two stages are usually separated by several months. In total, the process can take anywhere from six months to a year to complete.
